What Are You Doing to Help Preserve Mother Earth?

Friday, November 10, 2017

Over the course of the past decade or so, a growing number of people have realized that an intricate, independent, and global relationship exists among environmental protection, economic growth, and social equity.  Today, the concept of sustainability is visible almost everywhere. This includes job descriptions, corporate mission statements, and university course names.

Unfortunately, this ubiquitous nature of sustainability does not prevent it from being a vague concept. Owing to this, there is a good chance that we might not even recognize sustainability when we see it.
It is often noticed during group settings, someone will invariably mention sustainability and why it is so important. Out of some strange conviction, you will find others immediately nod, in an almost robotic manner, to show their support or compliance.  Rather than someone simply just nodding your head in agreement, we must begin to ask ourselves what efforts am I putting forth to promote sustainability?

However, before you do that, it is important that you get a good understanding of sustainability and what it takes to live that lifestyle.  Most, if not all of us, have some level of understanding of the term ‘sustainability’. Unfortunately, only a few of us know what it means in terms of our personal responsibilities and lifestyle.

Sustainability is an important part of our efforts to live more consciously on earth. Living more consciously on earth means living a life where our actions are based on ethical and compassionate principles, a larger awareness of life, and our connection to the universe. Basically, sustainability is being "aware" of our thoughts & actions and framing this in a larger universal context.

Today, the term ‘sustainable’ is often paired with words such as ‘living’ or ‘lifestyle’. The concept of sustainable living is all about maintaining existence by conserving our natural resources. It is relatively clear that our survival and the planet is an issue. There is a good chance that if we don’t act now, we can end up suffering the fate of prehistoric creatures. I know that may seem drastic, but it can very well happen. We must begin today.
