There is no doubt that the transition into being a mom is one of the most difficult times in a woman's life. The new addition to your family can cause few changes to your way of life and this is normal because you now have an extra person to care for. Some of these changes can have an impact on your lifestyle as an eco-friendly person. However, you don't have to worry because there are few changes you can implement to help you maintain your eco-friendly lifestyle.
I have prepared five ways you can maintain a green lifestyle, to help through your early days of parenthood.
Maintain existing Energy Routine
Energy is an important factor in making an eco-friendly world. So, with the presence of a cute little one, how do you plan to save electricity?. First things, maintain all the current routines of washing clothes at low temperature, switching off all appliances not in use, installing low lights bulbs etc. The extra energy consumption because of the new member should vary a little above 20% increase. To reduce this, you can always opt for manual toys instead of electric ones. Use warmers to store hot water.
Diapers: Clothes/Nappies Or Disposables?
Other than the irritations which can almost be eliminated by not using bleaches for baby clothes and laundry, Washable Cloth/Nappies are the safest and earth friendly diapers. The debate has been about if some diapers are truly biodegradables, while this is an issue, cloth diapers are actually less absorbent but all they need is hygienic washing and changing. Women's Environmental Network, WEM confirms that nappies are the most earth friendly diaper products. Thankfully, you can opt for cloth diapers produced by eco-conscious companies such as eco by naty
Water
Water control was never an issue for you until now that you have an extra pair of cute little pants to wash. Laundry or whatever form of large water consumption chore can be controlled by monitored usage. Being smart is the idea. Wash on low heat. There are now laundry machines with eco friendly wash buttons. For all water taps, you can install aerators. They help reduce the flow of water. Besides, your garden can be watered with leftovers from laundry.
Fuel
Raising a family can be tedious in terms of differences and the chores in daily activities. Each day is planned and car sharing can be an option to save. Dad can always take a break from work to take mom to the postnatal appointments or he can always take public transport or bike ride on the days he has to go to market.
Eat Green
Exclusive breastfeeding for six months is encouraged. As a mother, eating green is your best support. However, do you know that there are green foods and green recipes that will help you nurture your baby with all the nutritional values? Eating green is eating clean.
Incorporating an earth friendly lifestyle after childbirth is the same as having an earth friendly lifestyle before childbirth. The difference is there is just a new little one in town to focus your green habits towards.
