You have probably heard a great deal about superfoods that
are amazing for your skin including papaya, honey, avocados, brazil nuts, almonds,
coconut oil, cranberry juice, broccoli, and fatty fish just to name a few.
But, what you should be worried about are the foods that can do more
than good to your lovely skin -- and the result isn’t pretty.
Stay away from these if you want glowing radiant skin.
#1. Candy
You’ve been told before, too much-processed sugar isn’t good
for your skin (or anything else, for that matter). The sugar-ladened candies fuel rapid skin breakouts and acne. As if that isn’t bad enough, the bad carbs degrade elastin
and collagen, two compounds that are important for skin firmness and
elasticity.
Recap:
● Refined sugar age your skin
● Refined carbs ramp up oil production
which clogs your skin pores
● Over-processed sugar deplete good
gut bacteria which help nourish your skin
#2. Rice
Cakes
Once a darling of runway models, rice cakes are bad news for
your skin. Contrary to common belief, these sweet treats don’t help you lose
weight. In fact, the opposite is true -- it spikes your blood pressure which
causes skin wrinkles. You see, the simple sugars in rice cakes enter into your
bloodstream and adhere to wrinkle-fighting proteins such as elastin and
collagen.
#3. Dairy
Products
Milk may be great for your immunity and bones, but your skin
and beauty? Not so much. Dairy comes packed with several different hormones
that cause inflammation, impact negatively on insulin, and lead to
overproduction of oil which causes acne breakouts. If you must, try nut-based
milk like almond milk.
Good alternatives: almond milk, cashew milk, coconut
milk.
#4. Soy
Most vegans ditch dairy for soy products. It so happens
today’s soya is out-and-out GMO and contains lots of phytoestrogens which
disrupt the subtle hormonal balance. That’s not good news for your skin. Instead, try nut milk and grass-fed
meats.
#5. Wheat
Wheat is found in most pastries, morning cereals, and lots
of other meals. The gluten in white flour for one is your skin's number one nemesis. The phytic acid and gluten in
wheat can affect gut bacteria causing skin breakouts. Instead try grains that are free of wheat, including amaranth,
quinoa, brown rice, kamut and buckwheat.
#6. Alcohol
Alcohol is not food per se, but it’s your skin’s enemy
numero uno. It ages your skin, spikes blood sugar, depletes collagen, and
causes wrinkles. Try coconut water or kombucha to replenish your skin’s
moisture.
If you want healthy skin, then stay away from these foods or at least limit the amount of consumption at best.
